The number seventy-eight in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo PV455 convertible by Valbo. What a nice surprise to see this newly engineered model after quite a few "doubles". The red paint scheme is not my first choice. But the overall shapes and dimensions of the car are correct. I'm pretty sure most Volvo fans are happy to see this scale model popping up in this collection. Volvo offered and sold their PV444 model range also as rolling chassis without bodies under the designation PV455. A number of Swedish Coachbuilders built and offered specialist vehicles on the popular PV445 chassis. Convertibles were offered by Valbo Karosserifabrik, by Nordbergs of Stockholm and by Ringborgs Karossfabrik of Norrkoping. Quote from the website pvchassi.com: After a somewhat fumbling start the serious coachbuilding began in 1923 in the former brickworks and the tar producing factory in Valbo outside Gävle, Sweden. When World War II began in 1939 there were about 80 employees with the founders son Gunnar Åhlénius in the managerial post. Customers were the Swedish army, the Swedish Mail authority, the department for telecommunications and the electricity power company Vattenfall. After the ending of World War II the activity prospered following the growing need for vehicles. In the beginning of the 1950's the production was put on conveyor belt. At this state 1-1/2 cars were produced per shift. The commercial advertising for the van built on the PV 445 chassis said: "Van for workdays - estate wagon for Sundays."

The number seventy-seven in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 145 Express from the Swedish Polis. These Volvo 145 Express were mainly intended for use on the motorways. They were able to carry a lot of material. These made them unfortunately way to heavy. Notice the rear side windows which feature the very same finish as the windows of the ambulance versions. The scale model is not only a simple spin-off of previous versions from Editions Atlas' Volvo Collection. This new release comes with a couple newly tooled and added detail parts. The number seventy-six in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo P220 Amazon estate. This Amazon estate is the perfect companion for any of your Volvo's experiencing a 'lil cough this summer.
The number seventy-five in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 165. Some might say: "what??!!! … a 164 estate … Volvo never produced such a car!".
Well that is neither completely wrong nor right. Some of you might be lucky to catch a glimpse of this Volvo somewhere around the globe. But you will for sure find a few examples on the web. Here is a short background information: quote by Fredrik Nybard - the owner of a Volvo 165: The Volvo 164 was a step up for Volvo. Offering an official 165 estate would have made the 164 less prestigious and it would have made the production of further body forms §way more complicated. The production was based on the wheelbase length and the 164 was roughly 100 mm longer as the 140/145 so that the long straight six cylinder would fit.

The number seventy-one in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 240 GLT estate. Do I really have to introduce you this classic brick? I don't think so. This classic Swede has contributed a lot to Volvo's reputation for strong and everlasting cars. And I'm sure many of you still regret that Volvo has stopped producing the 240's. Volvo produced a total of 2,862,053 units between 1974–1993. The trim label GLT stands for "Grand Luxe Touring". Editions Atlas choose to offer the 1:43 diecast model in a very appealing color combo of dark red metallic with a lighter red interior. You just have to love this brick which comes fitted with Volvo's classic 15" Corona rims. The number seventy in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo 940 estate. Volvo's 940 was a real success since it combined comfort as well as huge space inside. What else could I tell you about this scale model. It totally deserves his place in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas. I'm personally not a fan of the chosen silver metallic paint. Volvo offered in my opinion way more attractive paint schemes. But this is just my opinion. A distinct difference between the Volvo 940 and 960 is the hood. The one from the 940 does not go all the way up to the windshield. The 900 Series was introduced in 1990 to replace the 700 Series from which it derived. Prior to the end of its production, the 960 was renamed as the Volvo S90 (saloon) and Volvo V90 (estate), and the 940 was renamed 940 Classic, becoming the last rear-wheel-drive cars from Volvo.
The number sixty-nine in the Volvo Collection by Editions Atlas is the Volvo TP21 UN (United Nations). Volvo's TP21 off-road radio communications vehicle (radiobil) was used by the Swedish Armed Forces. Volvo offered the 4x4 TP21 between 1953 and 1958. Volvo's TP21 was used by the Swedish Army in Cyprus in the 1960's under an UN (United Nations) mandate. The first international peacekeeping troops arrived in Cyprus in March 13, 1964. The first troops were Canadian, followed shortly by Irish, Finnish and Swedish contingents. The TP21 was therefore repainted in UN's all white paint scheme. Only a handful photos exist in the public domain which makes is pretty difficult to be able to tell which is which. A couple photos show the Volvo TP21 with sightly different signs during the UN mission in Cyprus.
